Plante has a woody over Yahoo! and Zimbra
It’s no surprise to Fanatical Botanicals that Plante loves his Yahoo! But they may be interested to learn that he is a bit of a Zimbra fan as well. The open source email and collaboration software that is widely used for small business and universities has been given the big thumbs up by Plante.
It wouldn’t surprise us that Yahoo! has been quietly consulting with Plante and their latest acquisition of Zimbra has us even more suspicious of Plante’s activities.
We like Zimbra, hopefully this will not prove to be the kiss of death for them as has happened with several other decent services that Yahoo! has acquired. If it is, we know who to blame.

Zimbra? Isn’t that Plante’s new masturbatory device? He’s been locked in his room screaming ‘Yahoo!’ and ‘Zimbra!’ all week. I just assumed…

While I do give the thumbs up to Zimbra (and on a good day, two thumbs up), I am not sure that the purchase is a good thing. We’ll have to wait and see. From a financial point of view, Zimbra seems to benefit. Also the claim is that the open source Zimbra isn’t going anywhere.
I am cautious though. The Q and A also states the usual ‘Business as usual’ and ‘we remain committed to our current clients’ puffery that goes along with this sort of thing. Those of us who have been around during acquisitions have heard all of this before. There was also mention in the Q and A of ‘additional monetization models to our partners’. What happens when open source conflicts with new monetization models?

Tis true. Everyone knows I loves me some Yahoo! and have been a big fan of Zimbra so I set up a bit of a get-together between the two. A few (hundred) beers later (plus a couple of my favorite gals from the strip club) we had an agreement. Very exciting. I would have told you guys but you would have teased me anyway so why give you the satisfaction…screw you! Go Yang!

Zimbra may well benefit from this - think money in hand - has Yahoo had any track record of being able to focus and make things work with many of the other acquisitions?
So how much did Plante make on this and knowing that Yahoo cannot afford to leave Zimbra without a monetization model - what do you suggest.
Ooh ooh - I know lets sell it to Google.

Be advised. Fake Plante is an impostor.

Do you mean to suggest that he is a fake?
