Welcome back Demonoid!

After months of being put on hold, one of our favorite bit-torrent sites has returned!

To my total amazement, I logged onto my family’s computer this evening forgetting that I had Demonoid as my home page. Oddly enough, I was planning on searching some torrents anyway and for a brief few seconds, I didn’t even notice I had been searching on Demonoid (rather that The Pirate Bay like I had planned). I’m pretty frigging stoked!

According to a post on Demonoid.com, Deimos, the former site administrator, was no longer able to put in the proper amount of time to take care of the site due to personal matters. He has recently assigned a good friend to take his place and the original moderating crew is still on board. Everything seems to be running smoothly, so for those of you with accounts, get back in there!

Best Damn Browser Smackdown : Opera says Fuck you Microsoft

Opera is breaking out the big guns…lawyers.   Today, Opera filed a complaint with the EU against Microspank.

They don’t want IE bundled with Windows, as it gives Microsoft unfair advantage in the browser war, and they want IE to comply with web standards.

Hmmmm.  Don’t we all?  I love Opera, they have big brass balls.

However.   Is there anyone bitching about Safari and iTunes coming bundled with OS X?  No?  *crickets* Anyone?  *more crickets*.  Oh yeah, nobody cares….yet.

So big ups to Opera on getting them some press coverage, but nobody in the world can make Microsoft comply to “standards” that aren’t really standard from a legal perspective.  We’ll be keeping a Geek eye on this one for y’all.

G-Talk and AIM come together!

FINALLY! Announced yesterday, Google had defeated Microsoft by taking a 5% stake in AOL. Now at this point, most would say “Bah, who cares? AOL sucks!” And they do. But what really matters is AIM service which has rested steadily atop other instant messaging services.

AIM in GTalkYou can now simply log into your GMail account and chat with GMail users as well AIM users. It’s very simple to use and is another step toward Google’s world domination!

For anyone not using GMail, GET A MAIL ACCOUNT!

  • It’s free!
  • Gigs of space!
  • Supports POP and IMAP.
  • Chatting with your friends right within the page (or pop the message out).
  • Simple searching for a message you need to track down.
  • 40+ Languages (Über vierzig Sprachen).
  • Few ads, and ones that actually relate to your message.
  • Great spam filter.
  • Everyone else is doing it!

Also, by having a GMail account, you’ll be given access to many other Google features like Calendar, Reader (for RSS feeds), Maps, Groups, Documents, Language Tools, and even a personalized Google homepage allowing you to add an endless amount of plugins!

I personally had been leaving my instant messaging client open all day along with my Gmail just to keep up with others. It killed resources and I personally never found an application that merged the two that I liked. I think this is another great move by our friends at GMail.

Twitter Shits the Bed, Geeks get Nervous

Twitter seems to have been down for a bit. It’s getting pounded by users, and Steve Rubel of Micropersuasion pointed out that it was basically unusable today because of the slowness. It’s an interesting thing, this Twitter. It’s best described as “microblogging”. Others refer to it as the “uber status message” ala AIM. I think it’s a great communication tool, and it was very helpful at SXSW.

I’m sure they’ll be adding servers soon, as twitter has already become a big part of daily routines in the geek world. That’s not always an easy thing to accomplish, but hey, these are the lads who created Blogger.

Netscape at it again

Ok, so we were quite harsh on the whole Netscape/Digg clone when it first came out but now we realize that it’s the best thing since Google. No? OK it still sucks. Well, they’re at it again and this time they’re revolutionizing the web as we know it with my.netscape.com. No? OK it will probably suck. Along the same lines as YourMinis and PageFlakes, My Netscape looks like it will be inferior in every way. Hey, they keep trying right?
I’m going to put it under the Web 2.0 category although I’m pretty sure it isn’t very 2.0ish.

OhMiBod – The iPod Powered Vibrator

Rand called for it, Paul dreamed about it, Brandon can’t wait to use it.   And now it’s here.

The “OhMiBod” (with the tagline, “Feel the Music”) is the first iPod powered Vibrator.   And NO I will not do a product review on this one, but we’re open to hearing anyones um……experiences with the device.

It even comes with a lovely case!!!!!

Here’s what the website says:

OhMiBod is a sleek, sophisticated new generation of vibrator that
combines elegance of design with the excitement of your favorite music.
The audio enabled integrated microchip allows the OhMiBod to vibrate to
the beat and rhythm of your music while you listen. Measures 5 1/2″
long (insertable) and 1 1/8″ in diameter. OhMiBod comes with an
additional multi-speed endcap for use without an iPod or music
ohmibod player.
It really is 2 products in one! Our motor provides strong yet quiet,
intense rhythmic
vibrations. With polished chrome detail and pearl
white body this product is the ultimate iPod acsexsory!

Why is the music component so important? Listening to your favorite
sexy music and actually feeling the corresponding vibes quickly
transports you to a place where music, mind and body truly “come”
together. The range and intensity of the vibrations are endless,
creating a dynamically sensational experience never felt before!

Well hot damn!!!

Hello! Apple shows off iPhone during the Oscars

Teaser commercial for sure, but promises the iPhone in June, even though there were rumors of an earlier release.

Gizmodo pointed out that the time and the logo on the phone changes (from Cingular to AT&T, who just merged)

No Mo iPhone Biffo

iPhoneJust when you thought the biff over the iPhone name was going to heat up, the bastards at Apple and Cisco have decided to play nice. Apparently they are now both able to use the iPhone name globally, in exchange for dropping all lawsuits. Aww ain’t that sweet. Even sweeter is the agreement that they would be exploring “opportunities for interoperability,” whatever that means…but could have interesting implications.

So now it’s on to the next big biff. I’m predicting fireworks at the next “D: All Things Digital” conference this year on May 30 between Jobsy and Gatesy as they will be sharing the stage to jointly discuss the history and future of the digital revolution in an unrehearsed, unscripted, onstage conversation. Check out AllThingsD.com and get ready for the biff…….Flemo
