Best Damn Tech Show, Period 08.07.07

With the big TV analog switch-off scheduled soon, the FCC has revised the rules for using the 700Mhz spectrum. Google wants to keep these airwaves open and the FCC has agreed stating that there can be no restrictions on the devices and services allowed on the network. Good stuff. Google has pledged $4.6 billion for the lot which, if they stick with their current business methodology, could mean free wireless (and good wireless) for all (maybe with a few ads thrown in.)

Elton John is also having a say (surprise, surprise) possibly as a result of seeing declining album sales for his Captain and the Kid. He is calling for the ban of the Internet to see what sort of art is produced over that span.

TECH BIFFO
Eminem sues Apple. Reps for the rapper are filing a federal lawsuit claiming that Apple (or more specifically Universal) is allowing users to download music onto iPods without permission. They claim that Apple has not compensated them for songs from The Eminem Show. Of the 99 cents that a track costs, 70c goes to recording companies while 9c goes to the copyright holders.

    Thanks for another great show.
    What happened to Paul’s laptop?
Hey, thanks for doing segments on the hot tips I send you.
Anytime I see or hear the hot info, you’ll get my email.

  2. flemo says:

Still have the laptop Nimble, just gave it a week off performing on the show. It gets very stressed out on camera.

Need as much hot info you can dig up, the hotter the better…scorching prefered.

  3. Byron says:

Good stuff as per usual… But why are the shows running a week behind these days? Is someone not feeding the editor?

  4. Rand says:

yeah, someone needs to feed me! sorry Byron, I’m doing the best I can. As the show has become more and more complex it takes more time to complete. Add that to the fact that I’m working on a billion other gigs these days and you have late tech show episodes. I’ll do my best to get them out as quick as I can…

  5. flemo says:

I take full responsibility Byron. Every week, we lock Rand in the basement and every week he finds a way to get out, something about needing to see daylight or something..who knows. Sure it’s a bit dark down there but for crying out loud, at least it’s warm (in the summer) and icy cool (in the winter) and only floods when it rains…oh and sometimes when people use the shower…or the dishwasher. I think it might be time to get the whips and chains out but we fear he may enjoy that too much.

  6. Byron says:

Rock on guys. Early or late I always enjoy the shows.

*mails Rand some water wings, oat sodas, and a sun lamp*

  7. flemo says:

I think we all want to see Rand in water wings:)

Oy, what with the rss feed. I’m using Juice and this video entry’s not popping up. What’s the deal?

Got something to say? Go for it!
