microsoft vs. EU – Schmidt facedThe Court of First Instance (CFI) delivered its final judgement on the aged lawsuit between the European Union (EU) and Microsoft. The court upheld the earlier victory for the European Union, requiring Microsoft to enable third-party integration to its rivals through documentation and support, to release a version of Windows without Media Player, to pay a substantial fine and to pay the majority of the legal costs of the case.

Not hottie, hot, hot, hot for ABC

Amanda CongersFormer Rocketboomer, Best Damn Hottie, Hot, Hot, Hot winner and more recently, ABC’s answer to new media has been quietly released from her contract (or has apparently decided not to renew) with the network after it became quite evident that the experiment bit the big one.

Traditional media (and traditional viewers) have traditionally had a difficult time adopting new media so it shouldn’t come as a huge shocker to us. I thought Amanda was a pretty risky choice. Her quirkiness was at times a little too quirky, even for a quirky bastard like me so for old schoolers, it was most likely, too much. A spot like Rocketboom was a far better platform as it has an underground vibe to it rather than being smothered with an establishment feel. Overall a failed experiment but no harm, no foul. Amanda is off to pursue other things (of course we wish her well), ABC will go back to the drawing board and most likely come up with another potentially lame option. Maybe Chris Crocker on assignment?

The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth

Forbes Magazine revealed their list for wealthiest Americans and I gotta say, it’s riddled with geeks. Noticeably absent is me, Flemo but I think that’s because I have a non-profit status.

So Gatesy (Bill Gates) still heads up the list at #1 with a cool $59 billion, Ello (Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle) commands $26 billion and holds the #4 slot, sneaking ahead of the Brinny and Page show (Sergey Brin and Larry Page, co-founders of a little startup called Google) at #5 with 18.5 billion apiece.

Randy RandOther notables include Delly (Michael Dell) with $17.2 billion, Balmy (Steve Ballmer, Microsoft mouthpiece) with $15.2 million, the Other White Schmidt (Eric Schmidt, Google CEO) with $6.5 billion and rounding out the list is Rand with $2 and 59 cents.

Check out the full list and keep being geeky, apparently you’ll increase your odds at making the list.

Things that happen at the Best Damn Tech Show, Period. don’t always stay at the Best Damn Tech Show, Period.

Plante’s bringin’ preschool back. Yeah.

Digg is working on something big.

So Digg.com is down and going under some renovations. What are they doing you ask?

Blowing the doors off of this mother, I say. Digg users have been up at arms at a recent story about Digg’s upcoming social networking features. I call bullcrap. I think Digg is an automatic player in social networking, because what is social networking? It’s finding likeminded people and hanging out with them.

Digg = Tons of Techy Geeks = My kind of people = Better interaction than any other normal social network (ie: Facebook, etc) for me.

I think it’s awesome. You’ll be able to send “shouts” to friends, asking for diggs and such. Profiles are more robust. I really can’t wait.

We’ll have a full review once its up, and we covered it during the tech show taping tonight.

Check out the Digg blog for more info.

Lost Tech Show Episode!!!

Just when you thought Blu-ray was becoming the studio darling comes word that Paramount and Dreamworks will be distributing solely on HD-DVD. They cite cheaper players and discs as being the primary reason and determined that the quality was higher.

Plante has a woody over Yahoo! and Zimbra

PlanteIt’s no surprise to Fanatical Botanicals that Plante loves his Yahoo! But they may be interested to learn that he is a bit of a Zimbra fan as well. The open source email and collaboration software that is widely used for small business and universities has been given the big thumbs up by Plante.

Zimbra LogoIt wouldn’t surprise us that Yahoo! has been quietly consulting with Plante and their latest acquisition of Zimbra has us even more suspicious of Plante’s activities.

We like Zimbra, hopefully this will not prove to be the kiss of death for them as has happened with several other decent services that Yahoo! has acquired. If it is, we know who to blame.

Google Presentations is LIVE!

Thanks to this tweet, the world now knows Google Presentations is Live.

Yeah, we knew it was coming, but hey, it’s fun.   Did I just say powerpoint presentations are fun?  Um.  Anyone who knows me knows that I hate them.  But um.   This could be fun.   You can share the slides in a nice presentation chatroom.

It’s kinda sexy.
